Sometimes the smallest error can cause big problems. One of the major issues regarding Check 21 Image Replacement Documents (IRDs) is that of document rejection.

What kinds of problems can trigger a rejection? Something as simple as wrong terminology. Look where it says "This your check" in Region 4F (the "pay stub" area to the left of the check image). It is not a check-- it's a LEGAL COPY of a check. That's enough to send it back.

Naturally, bad data will cause a rejection. If the MICR line, position 44" is blank. Position 44 is also known as the External Processing Code field and indicates the type of IRD: "4" for forward or "5" for return-- it is never blank.

Finally, the most obvious error: The back of the IRD lacks the reverse image of the check and IRD endorsement. While the original check endorsement may not appear if it was endorsed after image capture, the IRD endorsement must always be present.
